19 Funniest Running Man Segments Ever That Will Make You LOL

If you have just become a fan of the Korean variety show Running Man, I’m sure that you will eventually find that it is one of the funniest ever shows on TV after watching some of it’s funniest episodes.

And if you have read a previous article of mine about the show, you must have realized that I’m a very big fan of everything about the show… from the cast to the production crew to every laughter.

And if you think that I’m overstating the credit that the show deserves in the hearts of fans, I’ve hand-picked 19 of the funniest ever running man segments that will make you love the show too.

To keep in the spirit of the Nonuple theme, I tried to limit the list to 9 scenes… but I just could not because there are just too many incredibly funny moments to mention! So I expanded the list to 19.

Some are short scenes, some are games, and some are whole segments within episodes.

Get ready for some serious laughter.

Although the following list consist of segments and little scenes, I strongly recommend that you watch the whole episodes so that you can get a better grip of the context in the comedy you will be watching.

1) Episode 3 – Telepathy game

Guest: Goo Hara, Lee Chun Hee

The cast and guest are split into 2 teams. They are given a list of pre-written questions and answers.

Each team takes turns to put 2 members forward. While the 2 members put on headphones blasting out music, 1 has to ask a question from the random list and the other will have to say a random answer from the list.

A correct combination of question and answer will get the team 1 point.

You won’t believe how hilarious this is until you see it.

2) Episode 8 – Member clips before running man

Guests: Lee Joon, Victoria Song, Park Jun-gyu

The longer you have watched Running man, the more will you appreciate this segment of the cast’s histories. It’s an irony that this segment was filmed as early as the eighth episode.

rm-ep-8

Now that the members have become household names in Korea and many parts of the world, they can really look back and find their past struggles as a learning experience. And probably played a role in them becoming who they are, and where they are, today.

The old clips of Jae Suk, Suk Jin, and Jong Kook, in particular, will have you bursting in laughter.

3) Episode 15 – Haha and Joong Ki films a movie

This was still an early phase of running man with majority of it’s screen time dominated by Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Jong Kook. You can’t expect any less when they are the 2 celebrities in the cast who are the most established in the world of Korean variety.

At this time, other member of the cast have yet to build up their lovable characters in the minds of viewers like us.

If you don’t know, Joong Ki the heartthrob from Descendants of the Sun fame, used to be a permanent cast member of Running Man.

Haha and Joong Ki were getting bored with being ordered around by Jong Kook. They found themselves idling around and decided to film their own action movie scenes.

running-man-episode-15

They started to roll around on the floor, somersaulting, using their walkie-talkies as guns, and posing for the cameras like they were filming a trailer for an upcoming action movie. They were then awkwardly caught by Jong Kook while fooling around.

I remember watching this very early into my fan-hood with running man. And after this scene, I started to like Haha for his unpredictable antics.

4) Episode 63 – Opening introduction segment with SNSD

Guest: SNSD a.k.a Girls Generation

Shows with SNSD as guests always tend to be funny as hell.

There’s just something about the fusion of the comedy of running man and the personalities of SNSD that makes their shows so entertaining.

This episode opens with the introduction of the popular female group SNSD as guest.

rm-with-snsd-ep-63

Together with the running man cast, they have to pair up for a couple race. The way they go about this will leave you gasping for breath from all the laughter.

The mixture of humor and flirting is never-ending.

Turn by turn, each person chooses another of the opposite gender to partner with as a team for the day. And the selected person will have a choice to accept or reject the approach.

The testosterone levels of the guys were supercharged for this one.

5) Episode 78 – Haha Vs Jihyo trash talking

Hong Soo-hyun, Lee Bum-soo

In a game before the tag-ripping elimination round, Haha comes up against Jihyo in a battle of trash talk.

The person who can make the heartbeat of the opponent to beat the fastest will win in this duel.

As someone who is so good as talking nonsense, you’d probably think that Haha is a sure winner here. But Jihyo starts to reveal how Haha tried to seduce her with SMS that threw a spanner into the works.

Haha was stunned and have no comebacks while the spectators laughed uncontrollably.

6) Episode 82 – Jae Suk goes crazy about Lee Da Hae’s spy status

Guest: Lee Da Hae

In this episode, every cast member thinks that they are spies meant to accomplish a secret mission. Little did they know that they are actually being played by a “real” spy in Lee Da Hae.

Her job is to manipulate every member to help her eliminate everyone else.

In an effort to engage the help of Jae Suk, Da Hae openly declares her status as a “spy” to Jae Suk to win his trust.

rm-ep-82

And because Jae Suk is still suffering from the trauma of being a spy in previous episodes, he goes absolutely berserk at how openly Da Hae is approaching her spying activities. He was scared that their cover will both be blown if Da Hae keeps this up.

The constant probing of Da Hae and comical avoidance of Jae Suk made this a very laughable scene.

7) Episode 113 – Kim Jong Kook smashes the ultimate ddakji

Guests: Jeon Mi-seon, Yeom Jeong-ah, Yoo Hae-jin

Ddakji is a game in running man that has been played a number of times. Some episodes even make ddakji the theme of the show. For example, episodes 116, 144, 197, etc… in 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively.

And those who win in these shows tend to have a lot of bragging rights as a number of cast members love the game.

In this episode, the producers decided to give the cast the greatest challenge… to flip a ddakji that is “unflippable”.

The cast go about the day playing games and winning material to build their own ddakji to challenge the indomitable ddakji master.

Throughout the show, the cast were constantly reminded of how powerful this ddakji is. And the material that they were winning to build their ddakji were pretty heavy duty stuff too. So everyone was convinced that this ddakji would be as good as unbeatable.

In the final segment, with all the anticipation, Jong kook flipped the ultimate ddakji in 1 throw.

The producers including the whole production crew were stunned speechless! He had built a brick of a ddakji!

But it’s him flipping it the second time when you’ll suffer a mental breakdown. You see, when he did it the first time, everyone was too stunned to react. The cast then lined up to give it a go for themselves and the ddakji barely move from their attempts to flip it.

The producers, still with shock in their eyes, then said that this ddakji was not supposed to flip.

Then Jong Kook went like “Really?! Let me do it again.”. And BAM! He did it again.

And now he lays claim to the title of the greatest ddakji master!

You’d be laughing yourself silly at this scene just from the priceless reactions of the producers. But to really appreciate the context of this scene, watching the whole episode is suggested.

8) Episode 126 – Yoo Jae Suk shouting into sound meter

Guest: Choi Ji-woo

The cast is given a mission to trick the guest into believing she has an undercover mission to complete.

They then have to complete various weird and odd tasks involving the guest so as to do their part in completing the real mission.

Jae Suk with his zany luck gets a task of shouting Ji-woo’s name at a sound meter until it reaches a level of 125 decibels.

rm-ep-126

That is VERY LOUD indeed.

And he has to do this without arousing the suspicion from her that the cast is plotting against her behind the scenes.

Absolute rolling-on-the-floor laughter in this scene.

9) Episode 173 – Gary pitching

Guests: Ryu HyunJin, Suzy, and former baseball professional athletes

I made a mention of this episode among one of the best in the show’s history. You can only imagine how much creative work and logistical nightmare the production crew had to go through in order to put together the hugely entertaining baseball episodes.

The whole episode is filled with scenes and moments that will leave you in laughter.

And it was the moment that Gary declared that he was going show everyone what real pitching is all about…

running-man-173

…that left me in tears. Seriously.

I don’t know how to pinpoint the pitch that was so funny as he made quite a few pitches. But it’s the scene where his ball floated around like a butterfly and innocently flew into the hands of the catcher.

Until today, I still cannot figure how this gravity-defying feat was done.

This is one of my favorite episodes because the laughter is relentless.

10) Episode 205 – Party in wooden house

Guests: Baek JiYoung, Hong JinYoung, Wang Feifei, Kang Seung Hyun, Lee Guk Joo

Nothing makes the men in the cast more hyped up than having a number of beautiful guests on the show. And this is an episode that’s filled with non-stop laughter.

Non more so than the segment where they were partying in a little wooden house.

rm-205

Everyone is to dance to the music in the house. When the music stops, the first person to get out will have a chance to complete a task to win points for their team.

Absolute carnage in this one.

The whole episode is filled with brutal and gruesome battles that are absolutely hilarious.

The girls in this episode really takes the cake. Their personalities were so much fun and engaging that they became the actual stars in this show while the running man cast takes a back seat.

11) Episode 213 – K-Drama on Running Man

Yoo InYoung, Choi YeoJin, SeoWoo, Lee Yuri, Kim Min Seo

This is a couple race episode with a host of beautiful actresses who have made a name for themselves in Korean drama.

Although this episode was filled with fun and laughter, the funniest segment was the opening.

rm-ep-213

The guys were separated and left unaware of what’s going on. Then one by one, the actresses get into character and meet up with the men.

Suddenly everyone find themselves in a scene from famous Korean dramas.

Things started to crank up a notch when the guys started to realize that they are characters in a drama… and starts to get into character too!

12) Episode 216 – Test of courage

The cast are all dressed up in superhero costumes for this episode. Kwang Soo as you can see below has transformed himself to Avatar.

rm-episode-216

The quick-witted producers have set up a method to test the worthiness of the cast to be superheroes. They need to call on their courage to cross a plank that is linked from a rooftop to another rooftop of an adjacent building. And they have to do it blindfolded.

I don’t want to spoil this one for you.

But your eyes will be tearing up with laughter halfway into this segment. I’d dare say that this contains some of the funniest ever moments in the history of the show.

13) Episode 225 – Jae Suk goes hardcore into face-off

Guests: Kim Woo Bin, Lee Hyun Woo

The cast and guests were separated into 3 teams to play a game of face-off.

1 member each from 2 teams will take on each other in a face-to-face confrontation. They will push their face through a cardboard screen once the whistle goes and look at each other.

The first person who blinks loses.

The duels started off as you would expect. Players tried to make retarded faces and trash talk each other into submission…

That was until Jae Suk decided to go hardcore into this one by using props to make himself as ugly as possible. You wouldn’t believe how unrecognizable he became after doing himself up with markers and masking tape.

running-man-225

There was also another very funny incident later in this particular episode.

In a twist to how the name-tag elimination battle is played, players have to use a pen to write down names to eliminate each other.

With a little bad luck, Gary gets double-teamed by Kwang Soo and Woo Bin at the later stages of the game.

With Gary immobilized, Kwang Soo then goes about putting the pen into Gary’s and forces him to write his own name to “out” himself.

14) Episode 250 – Jong Kook gets stripped naked

Guests: Big bang

As audacious as it sounds, Jong Kook, the most powerful of the cast, was really stripped by the cast after feeling disgruntled at his dominance in a game of riverbank basketball.

rm-episode-250

Even his underwear was looted from him.

Chaotic scenes as the opposing team ganged up on him unleashing the years of resentment from his bullying tactics… all in the name of fun.

Jong Kook was left feeling violated while he dared not come up from the waters.

If you’ve ever had doubts about whether Jong Kook really spends a lot of time at the gym building muscles, you’ll be left with little doubts after this segment.

15) Episode 261 – Haunted house

An elaborate haunted house was set up for the cast to explore.

Everyone was spooked out by the eeriness. And this translated into some very hysterical scenes and interactions as many members are well-known to being timid.

rm-episode-261

Even the VJs were frightened out of their wits. And in the midst of the pandemonium, Kwon Ryeol even tripped over Jae Suk who was already rolling around on the floor from fear.

16) Episode 278 – Gary Vs Haha in X-Man

X-Man cast, Kim Seol Hyun

Gary’s looks have been referenced to squids for his “ugliness”. And this was the episode that really put the insider joke onto the map.

In recent episodes, Gary and Haha have somewhat become rivals and had quite a few head-to-head battles with each person having his fair share of wins and losses.

Haha came up with Gary again in a battle of wits. One person will ask the other a question and the latter will have to unequivocally answer the question with “Of course”.

rm-ep-278

Gary gets jabbed right a way with a squid question. While everything Gary throws at Haha were bouncing off without any apparent damage on his poise.

With time going by, both of them starts to go for the jugular resulting in some chaotic and humorous scenes.

You simply have to watch this one as it will leave you in stitches.

An insider joke within this segment is the ear-cupping parody done by both Gary and Haha. It was a infamous act originally done by Jong Kook in the past on X-Man. And it was referenced countless times to ridicule Jong Kook in many episodes throughout the whole running man series.

17) Episode 285 – Ji Suk Jin clueless at Doctors switching before him

The cast is having their skills assessed by scientists. And many of them are individually put through tests in odd and humorous ways.

The one that took the lot was Suk Jin’s awareness of what’s around him.

He was asked to go into a room alone to fill out a survey form in the presence of a doctor in white suit.

rm-285

And as he focused on filling up the form, the doctor in front of him keep switching with someone else hiding under the table. They managed to do this countless times without the victim even noticing.

Yet Suk Jin had looked at both persons in the face a few times and amusingly didn’t notice anything wrong.

The members watching the scene unfold in another room went nuts.

18) Episode 291 – Gary Vs Squid

There is a small story line between Haha and Gary for a while now. It concerns Haha continuously making fun of Gary being ugly by comparing him to a squid.

So in a “serious” setting, the production crew got a professional in the form of a plastic surgeon to compare Gary’s appearance and a dried squid. The doctor happens to be Jong Kook’s brother too.

It was a calm atmosphere until… the picture of Gary and a squid is blown up onto the projector screen.

runningman-291

The doctor was also trying to control himself… and tried very hard to control his own chuckles.

You would find it even funnier if you have been following the context between Haha and Gary in previous episodes concerning jokes about Gary and squids.

19) Episode 300 – Loser prize

Guests: BTS

At the end of the competitive game against BTS, which the running man team lost, 3 members from the cast were drawn to receive the “penalty”. It is actually a donation to a charity that the 3 members will pay for.

1 of the penalty tickets is a much much bigger donation compared to the other 2. So the 3 members randomly drew their tickets.

running-man-ep-300

It was at this time when it was suggested that they can switch their drawn tickets between themselves. They agreed to do so while dancing to music. And since this “punishment” was for a good cause, the ultimate loser have to keep a smiling face throughout it all.

It becomes obscenely funny as you track the big ticket being passed from one person to another.

Have a funny scene in mind? Tell me about it in the comments.

Lastly,

Please show your support to running man by watching it on official online channels and media networks. This is so that our views are properly clocked in by the statistics people behind the show. With such a huge international audience, the last thing we want is for the show to be cancelled as producers see plummeting ratings due to the large number of unaccounted views online.
