9 Reasons Women Love Geeks

Bad boys used to be the cream of the crop for single women. But modern times have caused what women find attractive in men to evolve.

It’s not that bad boys are no longer attractive. It’s just they face real competition from the nerdy kids they used to bully in school… for women.

Bulging muscles and 6 pack abs are still as sexy as ever. But when a beefy guy runs into a geek who offers a lifetime of iPhone jailbreaking expertise, the one who would can play a better role of provider to women might actually be the latter.

With how technology have drastically changed the world in the last 20 years, geeks have become sexy especially in the eyes of the younger generation.

And in case you still cannot come to grips about why this is so, here are some critical reasons why.

1) Expertise with gadgets and software

computer-geek-at-work

This is the most obvious reason why geeks are sexy. Almost every one carries around a few gadgets with them wherever they go these days.

In fact, I’ve just looked into my back pack and found

  1. an extra iPhone
  2. tablet
  3. power bank
  4. laptop
  5. dongle for mobile broadband
  6. wireless headphones

And it’s an off-day from the office, mind you. A work day will see me carrying even more electronic gadgets with me.

I’m sure that there are exceptions. But women generally are less tech-savvy with gadgets. And with the amount of gadgets women carry around all the time, geeky men can often play the role of lifesaver to fix or upgrade those gadgets and software that run them.

For example, it used to be enough to stand out from the crowd by just carrying a touchscreen smart phone while everyone else are still using conventional mobile phones.

But now… almost everyone in developed countries have their own smartphones with them wherever they go. So the trend has moved on to making their phones as unique and customized as possible to be different. That’s a piece of cake for geeks in the know.

And do you remember the time when your wireless router went haywire and you got disconnected from the world? A technologically inclined guy can usually solve the problem within a minute.

Who else would be a perfect sidekick to make the life of a lady easier in this world of technology? A geek of course.

2) Keeps track of latest cool gadgets

To tell you the truth, I didn’t know what an iPhone was until 2009. That was 2 year after it’s first release.

And I didn’t learn about the wonders of mobile data until 2010. That’s actually not so bad.

But I cannot imagine being a slow mover with these technologies if I had people around me who were verified geeks at that time.

Some other things that took me by surprise but had already been around for years by the time I learned about them include:

  • wireless router internet connection
  • wireless printer connections
  • bluetooth earphones
  • GPS on mobile phones
  • etc

Having a geek as a boyfriend ensures that a girl will have the latest news about gadgets that solves problems… at her finger tips. She can expect some cool gifts when her birthday arrives too.

3) More predictability and less complicated lifestyle

The lifestyle of a geek can be easier to predict and adjust to.

It’s easier for a woman to adjust to a new boyfriend’s lifestyle that includes a lot of time on his computer at home, than a guy who parties every night and getting home wasted.

Although women might find the adventures of night life exhilarating and intriguing initially, it can become a chore to manage in the long run.

Geeks tend to be self-sufficient and less of an emotional sponge. They can be very solitary at times.

This means they are ideal for women who likes to spend their time on themselves too. There’s no need to feel guilty about abandoning a boyfriend at home and going out for a shopping spree with friends. A geek boyfriend might actually prefer that.

4) Easier to please

Geeks are generally more intellectual (at least they think so) and less emotional. They tend to be better at making logical decisions rather than emotional.

This makes it easier to manage a relationship by engaging a guy’s logical mind.

Men could be coaxed into lowering his expectations on his girlfriend if he does not contribute enough in a relationship. Logic might actually enlighten him about how he should be contented with his girlfriend. And how lucky he is to just have someone as a partner.

In fact, don’t be surprise to find a geek boyfriend loving his girlfriend to bits just for giving him his own personal space so that he can go gaming for hours without feeling any guilt of neglecting her.

5) A girl can be the center of attention among geeks

Among a social group of geeks, where most guys prefer to spend hours on end gaming rather than dating, it won’t surprise most people to find such groups teeming with single males who have better things to do than to date.

I know this is assuming a lot. But if a social group is made up of mostly men with little experience with women, introducing a girl into the group will easily make her the center of attention.

This means that becoming the girlfriend of a guy in a group of geeks instantly makes a girl the most interesting person among them.

This is like feeding a thirsty supercar with gasoline. A girl feels more validated and appreciated. Her self-esteem shoots through the roof. And she feel more beautiful just by being around people who puts her on a pedestal.

I know this is a sinister thought. But it’s the truth.

6) Aloofness can be sexy

Nerds can sometimes be seductively attractive. They mind their own business, have a mind of their own, they can be nonchalant, and exhibit a level of aloofness that can be down right sexy.

This also depends on the what a girl finds attractive. Or how much weight she puts on looks.

But if you are a guy whose confused about why someone in class is heads over heels about you, maybe you should just stop thinking about “why”.

Sometimes, people are just attracted to who you are.

7) They can be old fashioned in romance

What can be more indulging that some good old fashioned romance?

I don’t know if this is specific to me. But the most romantic gestures that friends admit to doing always seem to be undertaken by those you classify as “geeks”.

A good friend of mine planned an elaborate event to pop the question on his current wife. The level of logistics and the people he had to pull in to make the event a success was incredible. It was a beach beside a luxury hotel. Every stage was planned meticulously in every detail from timing to positioning.

He is a geek who spends all his free time playing Dota online. And cannot stop talking about the game when someone who plays it too is present.

Another of my friends laid out the words “Marry Me” in the carpark with glow sticks. His girlfriend (now wife) lived on the upper floors of an apartment building and had a great view overlooking the carpark.

He is a geek whose crazy about mobile gadgets and accessories.

No matter how modern our lifestyles are these days, women loves stuff like these. It makes them weak in the knees and make them feel really appreciated.

It’s not that all non-geeky men are not romantics. But I’d say that there’s a higher probability that geeks are romantics.

8) Intellectual conversations

People are generally getting smarter and more intelligent these days partly due to the rise of the internet and mobile data connections.

And communication is slowly changing with time. More and more people are interacting with others more virtually than physically. Social media and instant messaging apps are prime examples of the communication phenomenon.

What’s more… short-hands, abbreviation, acronyms, and emoticons, are parts of a movement towards language lingo.

Geeks are very well positioned to be at the forefront of these modern languages. And women who have grown up chatting in geek-speak will undoubtedly find more common ground with geeks who speak the lingo.

But what’s more important than that is that geeks tend to be better informed on current events and have their own unique opinions of current affairs.

Talking to someone “in the know” can be mentally arousing especially when you are constantly surrounded by people who can’t hold an intellectual conversation for even a minute.

As the internet makes people more exposed to topics of various categories, it’s only natural that more and more people gets interested in obscure topics that don’t get mass media attention.

You can leave it to a geek to be able to hold his own in intellectual conversations. In fact, you might learn a thing or 2 just by talking to one.

9) Easier to break up with

I don’t know if you have noticed this. But these days, one of the key criteria that singles are looking for in someone else is whether that person will be easy to break up with.

  • Will he/she cling on her/him like a sloth on break up?
  • Will he/she be able to stand on his/her own feet after break up?
  • Will emotional blackmail be used as a weapon to delay or make break up difficult?

Laugh as you may. But these are real issues faced by both singles and those in relationships.

The last thing you want is to make up your mind about leaving someone but just unable to do a clean break.

As brutal as it may sound, geeks tend to be able to handle break ups better than the average Joe. They might already recognize the signs, they are more logical… and can probably get their minds off thing by visiting the LAN gaming place for hours at a time.

This will help women feel less guilty about leaving their boyfriends for someone else.
