9 Clear Signs You Have A Lone Wolf Personality
You just go about your daily routines doing your thing. It didn’t even occur to you that both people you know and people you’ve never even talked to are painting pictures in their minds about what kind of a person you are.
Then one day a friend drops a comment that has been on the back of your mind ever since. You have been labelled a lone wolf.
It’s not that it bugs you that people think this way about you. But you do wonder why people like to categorize you in a bracket when you’ve never made any effort to present yourself in any glamorous or undesirable way.
Add to that, lone wolf personality traits are not often used in a complimentary manner to describe someone.
So are you really a lone wolf? Does the following behaviors strike a chord with you?
1) You have traveled for an overseas holiday alone… and you LOVED it

Nothing beats the stress like how a holiday vacation can. Just the simple notion of being hundreds of miles away from the place you are so familiar with can do wonders to recharge yourself.
It’s no wonder that travel seem to be a perpetually booming industry. As the world gets smaller due to easier and cheaper transport, it will continue to grow.
However most of the time, the only people who travel alone are assassins, fugitives, spies, and… lone wolves.
If you can find no one person in your social group who is willing to go on a holiday trip with you, maybe the problem really is you.
2) You have no qualms with spending weekends alone at home

We are instinctively social beings. So free time on weekends are normally utilized to interact with friends and family.
However, sometimes the regular weekend routine gets disrupted due to other commitments of your social group members. You are then left with 2 whole days of empty schedule to fill up.
This is life. It’s a test. It happens. The question is how do you respond to it?
- Do you make calls to meet up with other friends?
- Pack your schedule with errands to run?
- Succumb to your fate and just be home alone for the weekend watching re-runs on cable?
The issue here is not as to what you do. It’s about how you respond.
If you hardly make an effort to side-step loneliness, maybe it’s because you prefer to be lonely.
3) You find people making small talk annoying

There are 3 primary reasons why people engage in small talk.
- To alleviate awkward moments of silence
- People are so comfortable with you that they can divulge any topic in their head to you
- You happen to be at the right place at the right time when someone gets chatty
Small talk is basically casual conversation with no repercussions. Either the topics are so odd that it has little value, or so casual that nobody expects anyone to take the topics seriously.
No matter the case, small talk is harmless and often a courtesy gesture to engage in with anyone including strangers.
But let’s not talk about strangers. Avoiding strangers can often be easily attributed to an element of safety and nothing to do with being an introvert. Having a stranger quiz you on your life can be a weird experience.
Let’s talk about people you know. People you recognize. People who actually belong in a certain social group of yours.
Is there anyone in your social group that you avoid small talking with? Does small talk with anyone annoy you? Do you actively avoid putting yourself in situations where small talk couldn’t arise?
If the answer is yes to any of the above questions, it could be that lone wolf in you that is driving those solitary instincts.
4) Your favorite topics are alien to your friends
This more of an expression. Yet at the same time, you could really have an obsession with topics like alien conspiracies that your friends have absolutely no idea they exist.
You can argue that this just means you have a mind of your own… or you can admit that you found extra leisure time to look up these interesting topics after you had alienated yourself from the pack.
If you have no genuine interest in trends that are hotly discussed in your social group, you are either a loner or you are simply in the wrong group.
It’s not that you have a medical disorder. It’s just the way you are.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. You just need to find a place where you are appreciated more.
5) You talk to yourself verbally more than with other people

Can you believe? |
I think this is as obvious as it gets. It will stick out like a sore thumb.
Other than looking like a patient with dementia, you can really freak out the people around you if you have a nasty habit of verbally talking to yourself.
The act of self-talk is actually pretty normal, especially when used for motivation.
But if your self-talk gets too frequent and becomes self-discussions and self-conversations, even though you could be totally fine mentally, the people around you might not think so.
And maybe it is because you have deprived yourself of social acceptance, that the only person who can agree with you is… you. So you prefer talking to yourself more than to others.
6) You thrive on making decisions that have negative impacts on others

It’s not uncommon to find people hard pressed to make a decision because the consequences could lead to suffering for others. Now “suffering” is a brutal word. In this case, it can be substituted with any other word(s) that represents negative connotations.
It would still make the point I’m trying to make valid.
When face with tough decisions to make, and the easy way out will be fairer in the eyes of the consensus but not beneficial to you, do you still make the self-beneficial “tough” choice without a hint of guilt?
If yes…
This is a very clear sign that you stand alone. Which is why you have no issues with making unpopular decisions since there’s no supporters around you to celebrate your democratic leadership if you choose the fairer route anyway.
You might as well make the decision that will benefit you the most!
So much pleasure you get from making these decisions, that you might even sought out positions where you can step in to make them.
For example, let’s say you have a group of 5 friends, including you. And 4 of them wants to go to the mall while you want to go to the supermarket. By a stroke of luck from spin the bottle, you will decide where to go next. If you still choose the supermarket, you are a lone wolf. A very narcissistic one at that.
7) You have had the experience of going through a whole week without receiving an incoming call or message

A sign that you have already created a loner’s image within your social circle is when… they leave you alone!
This is not simply a sign. It’s a neon sign.
With the internet and mobile connections available everywhere now, it’s no longer normal to go a day without any calls or messages, let alone a week.
And no. Work-related communications do not count.
So far have you outcast yourself from your friends that they don’t even bother to send you cute pictures of kittens or funny vines of comedy.
And you know what?
Because of your lone ranger tendencies, you don’t even make an effort to reach out to them. This shoves you deeper into the lonely hole you are living in.
Anyway… you don’t care, right?
8) You love to go against the grain just for the sake of it
It would be pretty hard for you to admit that you practice such behavior.
Even if you have the ability to accept it. You might not have the awareness to recognize it.
This is not limited to lone wolfs. Everybody has a natural tendency to lack personal awareness.
So the behavior of going against the grain cannot be judged by yourself. You have to ask your closest family member or your best friend to tell you in your face whether you display such behavior.
Surely you can remember the kid in school who argues with everything a teacher says. This is even when you can tell that the kid does not truly believe in what he is arguing for in the first place.
That kind of behavior is going against the grain just for the sake of it.
You might be doing it without realizing.
In deep psychology, you are doing this because something inside you wants the people around you to realize that you are different. You don’t fit in like a dovetail joint and you are making that point to the world of observers. You are not simply a line of code in the matrix…
You are a lone wolf.
9) Your mother said you are one

Nobody knows you better than your mother.
You might reject that notion because your mum does not appear to know you well. But really… that is because she chose not to make you uncomfortable. She almost certainly knows you like the back of her hand.
She brought you up. She remember things about you earlier than you own earliest memories.
In fact, she might even be the one who nurtured the wolf in you!
So do take it from her if she declares you as one.
