9 Possible Meanings Of “All is revealed” in X-men Apocalypse
I’m not a hardcore follower of X-men and I don’t have the inside scoop of their origins and history. I have never read an X-men comic book. And I don’t have any favorites among them.
But I caught the X-men Apocalypse movie and was blown away by the scene where the Phoenix emerged and wiped the floor with Apocalypse like he was just a pesky insect.
The movie itself was not that bad. And not that great either.
Before the bad guy disintegrated into dust, he muttered “All is revealed”.
That line had me thinking for a while. Then I remembered an earlier part in the movie that fully explains what he meant when he said that line.
Here are 9 possible meanings to “All is revealed” and the answer, to me, is #9.
1) He was simply referring to the betrayal of the horsemen which he assembled
One by one, they went against him. And he probably feel a little low on self-esteem when he realized that he was all alone committed to his job.
2) He referred to the powers of all X-men being revealed
Up until the Phoenix force was unleashed, he already knew the hidden powers of each mutant… except Jean Grey.
And when she revealed her true colors, he finally knew the powers within all of them. So he said that line with a tinge of satisfaction… even though it was too late.
However, there are talks in the realm that Apocalypse could not have died as he is immortal.
3) He realized that he was not the most powerful mutant
All throughout the movie, Apocalypse was walking with a swagger.
You can’t really fault him for that bashfulness as he was indeed someone at a higher level than all the mutants. He was certain that he would not be defeated by anyone.
So he was shocked yet humbled that there was a force far greater than he has ever known. His lofty ambitions were never going to be fulfilled in the first place.
4) It was a sigh of regret
His final words was nothing out of the ordinary and had no hidden meanings.
It was basically a sigh of regret that he did not recruit Jean as one of his horsemen.
5) His agenda was to revive the Phoenix
Maybe he knew all along about the presence of the Phoenix. But he had no idea where the celestial creature is.
His real motive could be to find the phoenix and get it to sign a partnership agreement to destroy and rule the world.
And when he finally found it, he was already on the wrong side of the fence.
6) He realized that his prophecy was wrong
He was a man with a vision. He truly believed in what he was doing and it was his destiny to fulfill it.
“All is revealed” could be just a realization that he was wrong. It’s hard for him to come up with any other conclusions while being pulverized into dust.

7) He dialed the wrong number
In the whole plot, his goal was to possess the psychic powers of Charles to bring about total destruction to the world.
When Jean threw a spanner into the works, Apocalypse realized that he had gone after the wrong person. It was Jean’s powers he should have gone after.
8) He realized that Charles had hidden Jean’s power in a vault at the Astral plane
Apocalypse must have been puzzled at why the X-men are fighting him when they knew full well that they were not his match.
You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that X-men is done.
Yet Charles would not surrender and kept fighting when the final result was inevitable.
When Jean walked out of that vault in the Astral plane and obliterated Apocalypse by sneezing at him, he realized now that Charles always had a secret weapon waiting in the wings. He could very well be just a pawn in Charles’ attempt to get Jean to embrace her power.
This made sense when you consider that it was Charles who led Apocalypse to the place where Jean’s real power is kept. He then kept calling for her help. As if coaxing her out of her shell. Then he smiled like a petulant child when he knew he succeeded in calling out Jean.
UNLEASH YOUR POWER! LET GO, JEAN! JEAN, LET GO!
9) The real answer
Alright that was a lot of possible meanings to go through.
The real answer to “All is revealed” is in an earlier scene of the movie.
I don’t know why my brain decided to remember that scene. But it did. So it was pretty clear to me what the 3 words meant.
The scene I’m talking about is the one where Charles was abducted in his wheelchair. The X-men scrambled to rescue him as Apocalypse and his crew left via the portal. As he walked into the portal, he said:
“All will be revealed, my child.”
It was directed at the X-men trying to rescue Charles.
Now as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a follower of X-men. But I interpret that those words in that situation refers to Apocalypse explaining himself (in his own unapologetic way) that he needs Charles powers to unleash total destruction on the world. And that the X-men will understand later that this kidnapping would be a key event towards completing his mission.
Looking at how similar “All will be revealed, my son.” is to “All is revealed.”, you’d guess that they refer to the same thing.
For a movie with a $178 million budget, surely a coincidence like this in the script is not left to chance.
Assuming my reasoning is correct in that context, when Apocalypse said “All is revealed”, he realized in that moment that he didn’t need to do the dirty work of destroying the world. He didn’t need to increase his powers to do that.
The Phoenix already had the power and temperament. It was not his place to put the world as we know it to an abrupt end.
It was the Phoenix’s.
