9 Mind Bending Movies That Will Leave You Breathless
I confess. I have an unhealthy addiction to movies.
And mind bending movies is the genre that is like cocaine to a satisfy my cravings.
It’s not that I would suffer from withdrawals without a proper mind-fuck once in a while. But once in a while, you’d like to have a good sumptuous meal at your favorite restaurant, don’t you?
There is really no statistics on this. But I think that the amount of movies I watch is definitely way more than the average movie buff.
That is without counting the films that I’ve watched more than once.
If you like mind bending movies like I do, here are 9 of my personal favorites that will leave you gasping. And fully satisfied that you have given your mind a good workout.
I also try to leave out movies that don’t really give your mind a good workout but just have one major twist in the end. Those in my opinion are not really the genre of movies I’m referring to here.
For example Fight Club, Gone Girl, Memento, Usual Suspects, Vanilla Sky, just to name a few.
Alright with no further ado… and in no particular order…
1) Inception
This simply has to be one of the greatest shows of all time.

When I first got wind of this film, I didn’t give it much attention because I didn’t give the word “inception” a second thought.
It sounded like some lame title that seeks more to confuse the public than to provide an immediate insight to what it’s all about. And movies like that often tank big time.
But wow!
The plot behind this is intricately written. And the performance of Leonardo Dicaprio is simply phenomenal.
I feel that the secret to it becoming such a bit hit is that the plot although confusing and complex, can be comprehended by the average person as long as he puts a little thought into it.
Movies with too complicated a plot will never be as successful as people will simply not be able to understand it.
If one wants to be entertained and don’t have a need to understand a movies, he should go for one of those action-packed movies instead.
2) Matrix reloaded
Alright. The trilogy of movies is all good… but for different reasons.
The first installment was just an introduction of the concept behind the movie. The only real eye-opener was when Neo finally accepted who he was and eventually saw the matrix as it is… in green coding…
Part 3 was just basically a war between humans and machines. There’s no shortage of such movies around.
Matrix reloaded is the one where all hell broke loose. And when the viewer is presented with more mind-blowing information of how the matrix works.
Thought provoking…
Plus… some pretty awe fighting and chasing scenes.
3) Triangle
This is one sick movie that time after time, leaves you wondering what the hell is going on.
Just when you think you have got the chapters of the story down, you need to reset the thoughts in your head.
However, the film is purely sold for it’s plot.
There is little else you would like about it. So I would say that only those who like movies that make you think afterwards would be able to appreciate it.
4) Predestination

Can you believe? |
Ethan Hawke is one of those mysteries around Hollywood.
How is it that he has not become a mega superstar after more than 20 years in the industry?
Predestination is a mind-boggling story that brings twist after twist in it’s timeline as it unfolds.
And just when you feel that nothing can top off the previous twist, it drops the mother of all twists on you.
You would be deciphering the story for hours after watching it.
5) Interstellar
Great movie.
I love space and astronomy stuff. And this is one of the best that I have had the pleasure of watching.
A little sci-fi, a little mystery, and a little love. There is even space for Christopher Nolan to throw in a villain into it somewhere along the lines.
It is a must-watch for movie goers who love space, sci-fi, and time travel scripts.
The downside is that a lot of dialogue is barely audible. Matthew McConaughey should wear a better mic or work on the volume of his voice.
6) Coherence
This is actually based around a pretty basic concept of parallel worlds as depicted being a possibility in quantum physics.
It is how the story is told that will leave you intrigued and with no lack of goosebumps.
The disappointment to the show is that there is no real resolution to the cluster fuck. And by this I’m not just referring to the ending.
The characters were mixed up in different worlds… and that is THAT!
7) Primal
I had a lot of hesitation to list this here because this is an example of a movie that has gone overboard with challenging the viewer.
There is no way you will fully understand this film by watching it the first, two, or even three times. Even Einstein would probably not be able to grasp the timeline of events here.
In a way, it is like Inception where the characters go into a dream within a dream. In this case, the characters go time traveling within time traveling.
To be honest, I had a lot of enthusiasm to watch it from the many good reviews it had received. But I was very disappointed in the show by itself.
Other than giving your mind a good spanking, it delivers very little else.
By the time you think you have a good idea of what was actually going on in the movie (maybe after watching 9 times), you will learn that you knew nothing when you really find out what the plot is all about.
8) Prometheus
Because of the connections to the Aliens series, Promethues probably got misunderstood by many movie goers before they even saw it.
And thinking that it would be a show of the same genre as Aliens, many would have given it a miss.
But Prometheus is much more than that.
Sure, the typical face-huggers made their expected appearances. So did the xenomorphs.
But the whole film is trench-deep in mystery and truth-finding. You also get that eerie feeling throughout the show.
Yet I have to admit that the main reason why I find this show such a mind fuck is very much due to the viewer constantly trying to work out how events in this movie led to events to the Aliens franchise story line.
This is a prequel after all.
Nevertheless, it’s a great show which will leave you ever so enthusiastic to watch the follow up Alien Covenant.
